With awareness there is no need of willpower

"The old way of thinking about our relationship with food involves a perceived need to control ourselves around it - and control requires willpower - right?

How many times have you told yourself (or someone else) 'I have NO willpower' when it comes to certain foods? When you practice mindfulness and mindful eating, the need for willpower evaporates into thin air.

You learn that you don't need to exert control around food.

All you need is to be present with your experience.

This means that as you're eating, you're aware of things like: the taste, the texture, whether you're enjoying it, how your perception of the taste changes as you eat, your growing fullness as you eat, your growing sense of satisfaction...

If you're paying attention, there will come a point at which you'll decide you've had enough. That point feels natural and it comes without effort.

It may be because you realise you're comfortably full

It may be because you realise it doesn't taste so good any longer - so why keep eating it, knowing that the very next time you want it, you can have it?"- Vania Phitidis (World Mindful Eating Month TCME)
